Wombat Hire dismantled the playground and shade while keeping the two structures in good condition to be reinstalled later by carefully planning the demolition and skilfully operating in tight spaces and near utilities on site. They provided three 3.5-5.5 tonne combo loaders to the work site to complete the detailed earthworks in three days, so the concrete could be poured before the October storms. This ensured the concrete dried correctly. As they do with every project, Wombat Hire stayed on-time, within budget and met the project and safety requirements, while collaborating effectively with plumbers, electricians, concreters and more on site. The new learning centre includes a classroom block with a library, three general classrooms and three research and discovery spaces, with air conditioning installed as part of the $477 million Cooler Cleaner Schools program running until June 2022, where 650 schools including 10,000 classrooms across Australia are set to receive air conditioning installation on the Palaszczuk government’s tab.All Bundaberg schools have already received air conditioning installation under the program, and are now waiting for the next stage, where a dedicated $71 million in virtual solar farms on school buildings will power the air conditioning installed in the previous stage.Wombat Hire also provided their services to Maryborough State School under the Renewing Our Schools program. Learn more about our work with Maryborough State School here.Bundaberg High has so far benefitted from the Renewing Our Schools program with a sports centre refurbishment and extension, with new amenities, banks of lockers, tiered seating, court resurfacing, improved ventilation and improved air flow, which began construction earlier this year. By the beginning of this school year, a refurbishment of their Q Block and installation of a walkway to W Block was completed, which the students can enjoy now.
Bundaberg High is currently seeing the benefits of a $12 million investment from the Palaszczuk government as part of the $235 million Renewing Our Schools program being fulfilled across Queensland. After schools in the Bundaberg region gained an additional $2.4 million in funding, Bundaberg High began building their new learning centre with Integral Construction. Integral Construction had formed a relationship with Wombat Hire on their Maryborough State High project, thanks to Wombat Hire’s successful turnaround where the previous contractor failed to meet the project requirements. So, Wombat Hire joined Integral Construction once again, this time as a sub-contractor on the Bundaberg High project. As an earthmoving contractor and plant hire supplier serving Bundaberg and beyond, Wombat Hire once again met the project requirements, which included detailed earthworks for the slabs, footings, and elevator shaft of the new learning centre. Wombat Hire also aided in the demolition of Bundaberg High’s old playground and shade structure, and performed the earthworks required for re-installing it.
Renewing Our Schools’ improvements on Bundaberg High are ongoing, with a dedicated $957,000 for maintenance across Bundaberg schools and $421,000 for minor works across Bundaberg schools pledged.Construction on the learning centre is set to be completed in April of 2021. By working effectively on another project, Wombat Hire has solidified their relationship with Integral Construction and their reputation across the Sunshine Coast as a plant hire supplier and earthmoving contractor to be called on for any excavation project, who gets it done right and on time, every time.
